REPO, the thrilling online co-op horror game, is set to receive its first update, introducing a unique feature known as the "duck bucket" designed to neutralize the threat posed by the game's notorious Apex Predator—a small yellow duck that transforms into a terrifying monster when disturbed. This update not only aims to keep the duck at bay but also enhances player experience with new facial expressions and quality-of-life improvements. The developers at Semiwork Studios announced these changes in a YouTube video on March 15, promising a more enjoyable gameplay experience.
REPO, which supports up to six players, challenges teams to carefully extract and retrieve items in a horror-filled setting. The duck, a seemingly innocuous creature, becomes a formidable foe once activated, attacking players for 10 seconds before reverting to its normal state. The introduction of the "duck bucket" will allow players to trap the duck, preventing it from following and potentially transforming into its monstrous form, thus safeguarding the team from unexpected scares.
Duck Bucket To Fend Off The Duck
The "duck bucket" is a strategic tool designed to keep the duck contained, ensuring that players can focus on their objectives without the constant threat of the duck's transformation. This feature is particularly useful in preventing accidental activations by teammates, adding a layer of teamwork and strategy to the game.
New Map Called "The Museum" and Public Lobbies
In addition to the "duck bucket," Semiwork Studios is set to introduce a new map named "The Museum," which will test players' parkour skills. The Museum will feature visible borders around extraction points, making it easier for players to determine if their loot is within the extraction zone. The developers are also working on implementing public lobbies, responding to player feedback that favors a matchmaking system with both public and private options, along with a kick button. However, they noted that adding such features involves complex server coding, which might delay this update.
Lethal Company Creator’s Advice on REPO
Since its release in February, fans have drawn comparisons between REPO and the popular online co-op horror game Lethal Company due to their similar mechanics and themes. On March 15, Lethal Company's creator, Zeekers, shared his insights on Twitter (X), offering constructive criticism on REPO. He praised the game for its fun factor and highlighted the amusing objective of moving a grand piano through a cramped mansion, but suggested improvements such as increasing the voice chat range and reducing its muffling effect. Zeekers also noted that the game's design excels in cramped environments rather than vast open spaces, and stressed the need for an in-game way to learn about enemy behaviors.
REPO has quickly risen to become the second best-selling game on Steam, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2, with a peak concurrent player count of over 230,645, nearing Lethal Company's all-time high of 240,817 players. This viral co-op horror game, exclusive to PC, continues to attract a growing community of players eager for the latest updates and improvements.
