Civ 7 Patch 1.0.1 Fixes Early Access Issues

Author : Lucas Mar 14,2025

Firaxis Games, the developer behind Civilization VII, has released patch 1.0.1, hot on the heels of the game's full launch. The launch followed an advanced access period that garnered mixed Steam reviews, prompting Firaxis to address several community concerns. These primarily centered around the user interface, a perceived lack of map diversity, and the feeling that key features were missing at launch.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative press and player feedback. However, he expressed confidence that the game's appeal would grow with increased playtime, characterizing the early performance as "very encouraging."

With Civilization VII now available to all players, Firaxis has released Patch 2 (PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck), the first of several planned updates addressing advanced access feedback. The full patch notes are detailed below. It’s important to note that cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled on PC to streamline updates, resulting in a different patch deployment schedule compared to consoles. This only affects cross-play between PC and console players; console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

Civilization 7 1.0.1 Patch 2 - February 10, 2025

Gameplay (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Fixed an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States will now become Friendly Independent Powers during Age Transitions instead of disappearing. They'll also start with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Resolved inconsistencies in Naval Combat: Naval Units will now use correct Combat Strength values when attacking, receive reciprocal damage, and move consistently to the attacked tile after victory.
  • Completing a Legacy Path's final milestone no longer adds Age Progress in the Modern Age, allowing more time for victory completion.
  • Towns will automatically refocus on growth if their chosen Focus becomes ineligible (e.g., population decrease).
  • The Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use. The same applies to Future Tech.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive Growth bonuses resulted in negative Food needed for growth.
  • Improved Rail Networks, enhancing the reliability of Settlements connecting to the network over water via Ports, provided the Capital has a Port or rail connection to a settlement with a Port.
  • Improved the Antiquity Age Loyalty Crisis by allowing the purchase of Villas to manage settlement happiness.
  • Cross-play multiplayer note: To expedite PC updates, patches will sometimes be deployed at a different cadence than on consoles. This includes Patch 1.0.1, resulting in the temporary disabling of cross-play between PC and console players. Console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

AI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • AI will less frequently offer high-value Cities during Peace Deals.
  • In the Modern Age, AI will declare war less often at the start and will consider Ideology more before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Other Leaders will have a decreased desire for war and increased desire for peace with players sharing ideologies, and vice-versa.

Camera (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Fixed an issue on native resolutions where the camera would focus incorrectly on the minimap.

UI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font (temporary, pending future improvements).
  • Fixed an issue preventing the Settlement menu from opening when clicking a non-player's Settlement Banner.
  • Fixed an issue where yield icons failed to appear on buildings after town conversion to city.
  • Fixed an issue with cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
  • Added notifications for completed Espionage actions.
  • City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
  • Your current religion is now displayed first in the belief picker tabs.
  • Fixed an issue where a District’s health bar remained on-screen after healing.
  • Fixed an issue where Leaders lacked portraits after relationship changes.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary overview screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the background color wouldn't change in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing between Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.
