Take-Two Interactive plans to keep supporting legacy titles based on active player engagement. Here's what this means for GTA Online's future.
GTA Online Could Continue Running After GTA 6's Release
Take-Two Commits to Supporting GTA Online With Sustained Player Interest

Many players question GTA Online's future following GTA 6's launch. While Rockstar hasn't confirmed specific plans, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered encouraging insights during a February 14, 2025 IGN interview.
Zelnick remained cautious about discussing specific titles but explained the company's general approach: "I'll speak theoretically here since we don't comment on unannounced projects. Fundamentally, we continue supporting games where we see active player engagement."

The executive cited NBA 2K Online's Chinese market as an example, where both the original 2012 release and 2017 sequel coexisted successfully. "We didn't discontinue the first online game because both maintained strong player bases. Our history shows we support legacy titles when communities remain active."
This philosophy suggests Rockstar may maintain GTA Online alongside GTA 6, given its decade-long financial success and enduring popularity in the gaming landscape.
Rockstar May Introduce User-Created Content Platform for GTA 6

Reports indicate Rockstar is developing a GTA 6 online experience with user-generated content capabilities similar to Roblox and Fortnite, according to a February 17, 2025 Digiday report.
The publication revealed: "Rockstar has consulted with prominent creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and the GTA modding community about developing custom experiences within the upcoming title." This system would let players modify environments and assets, creating unique gameplay scenarios.

Beyond expanding GTA 6's appeal, this approach could create new monetization avenues through virtual item sales and creator revenue programs. Rockstar declined to comment when contacted by Digiday about these plans.
Despite its age, GTA V remains among the most-watched games on Twitch. Incorporating modding tools and creator content could significantly boost GTA 6's presence across streaming platforms and social media.
