The director of *The Fall Guy*, David Leitch, is reportedly in talks to helm Netflix's adaptation of the iconic video game, *Gears of War*. Leitch, renowned for his work on action-packed films like *Atomic Blonde* (2017), *Deadpool 2* (2018), *Hobbs & Shaw* (2019), and *Bullet Train* (2022), brings a wealth of experience to the project. Alongside his partner Kelly McCormick, they are set to produce the film in collaboration with *Gears* developer The Coalition. The script is penned by Jon Spaihts, known for his work on *Dune*.

It's been over two years since Netflix acquired the rights to *Gears of War*, and it appears that progress is finally being made. An adult animation series is also in development, slated to follow the movie's release. If the adaptations prove successful, more *Gears* projects could be on the horizon.

A major point of interest for fans is who will portray the protagonist, Marcus Fenix. Dave Bautista, a former wrestler turned actor, has openly expressed his strong desire to take on the role, even receiving endorsement from *Gears* co-creator Cliff Bleszinski.

The video game adaptation industry is currently thriving, with successes like *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, *A Minecraft Movie*, and the *Sonic* series setting new benchmarks. Other notable adaptations include the *Uncharted* movie, *Mortal Kombat*, and various *Resident Evil* films.

In a recent statement, Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer emphasized that the company remains undeterred by the underwhelming reception of the *Halo* TV series. Spencer noted that Microsoft has learned valuable lessons from *Halo* and other projects like *Fallout*, which has bolstered their confidence in pursuing further adaptations.

"We’re learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more,” Spencer remarked. He further added, “We learned from doing Halo. We learned from doing Fallout. So all of these build on themselves. And obviously we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is, ‘You’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.’"

Meanwhile, in the gaming world, The Coalition is currently developing *Gears of War: E-Day*, a prequel to the series, though a release date has yet to be announced.
