Kojima Plans Film After PlayStation's Physint in 5-6 Years

Author : Amelia Dec 12,2025

Hideo Kojima's highly anticipated spiritual successor to Metal Gear, Physint, remains approximately "five to six years" from launch.

The legendary game designer confirmed this timeline in an interview with Le Film Francais, noting his filmmaking ambitions will stay on hold until completing his first post-Konami "action espionage" title – referring to his high-profile 2015 departure from the publisher.

"Numerous development offers with serious funding reached my independent studio after leaving Konami," Kojima explained through ResetEra user Red Kong XIX's translation. "Alongside Death Stranding 2, we're developing Physint – a project requiring another half-decade of work."

"Perhaps then I'll transition to filmmaking," the visionary creator added. "Cinema shaped my childhood. Directing would honor that legacy. Besides, I should pursue this while I've still got energy!"

PlayStation Studios' Herman Hulst unveiled Physint in January 2024, though details remain scarce. Initially described as blending cinematic elements, Kojima later clarified on social media that it represents next-gen "Digital Entertainment" with movie-quality production values.

The project joins Kojima Productions' busy slate including Death Stranding 2 and Xbox collaboration OD, featuring talents like Hunter Schafer and Jordan Peele. The studio also assists with A24's Death Stranding film adaptation.

As Death Stranding 2: On The Beach prepares for its June 26 launch, star Norman Reedus confirmed his reprisal, telling IGN he'll naturally portray his character in the movie. Meanwhile, Kojima continues revealing unrealized concepts – from abandoned game ideas to a novel "Forgetting Game" mechanic, plus posthumous project blueprints stored for his team.
