Bloober Team has confirmed a new partnership with Konami to develop another game based on the Japanese publisher's IP, building on the success of their Silent Hill 2 remake.
While neither company revealed specific details about the project, Bloober's horror expertise and the commercial performance of their Silent Hill 2 remake (selling over 2 million copies) strongly suggest another Silent Hill installment. Konami will maintain publishing rights and ownership of the upcoming title.
Official Statement from Bloober Team CEO
Konami recognized our ability to revitalize iconic horror franchises and selected us in 2021 to remake Silent Hill 2 - a landmark in psychological horror. Our October 2022 announcement through the Silent Hill Transmission event marked the beginning of this collaboration.
The remake's critical and commercial success (earning 86/100 on Metacritic and 88/100 on OpenCritic) demonstrated our understanding of the original's atmosphere while implementing meaningful innovations. Awards including IGN Japan's Game of the Year 2024 validated our approach.
This success has now led to a new agreement for an upcoming project, aligning with our strategy to expand internal development capabilities. Our partnership with Konami continues to be productive - while we can't share specifics yet, we're confident fans will be thrilled when we're ready to reveal more.
The Silent Hill 2 remake launched October 8, 2024 for PS5 and PC, achieving one million sales within days - potentially making it the fastest-selling Silent Hill title, though Konami hasn't officially confirmed this record. No Xbox Series X/S version has been announced.
IGN's review scored the remake 8/10, praising it as "a great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror."
The remake's performance has accelerated Konami's franchise revival strategy. Current projects include Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall, alongside a Silent Hill 2 film adaptation. Meanwhile, PC modders continue experimenting with the remake - altering visual elements from character hair to the iconic fog effects.
