Pesten With Cards is a classic Dutch card game that literally means Bullying With Cards. Similar games are played in other countries, such as Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, or Uno. The goal is to be the first to get rid of all your cards. Before playing the winning card, the winner must announce "Last Card." Forgetting this announcement results in a penalty—drawing two extra cards.
The game can be played using multiple decks of cards, including jokers. Each player starts with seven cards, while the remaining cards form a face-down stock pile. At the beginning, the top card is turned face-up on the table. Players then take turns (clockwise) to play their cards. Note: if the revealed card is a "Pest-card," it is treated as if the dealer played it, and its effect applies immediately.
On your turn, you must play a card by placing it onto the discard pile. You may only play a card that matches either the number or suit of the top card on the pile. The exceptions are Jokers and Jacks, which can be played on any card. If you cannot play any card, you must draw one from the stock pile and add it to your hand. If the drawn card is playable, you may choose to play it immediately or keep it.

When you play a card and have only one left, you must announce "Last Card" by clicking the "Last Card" button above your cards. This informs all players that you are about to finish. Forgetting to announce it—and then playing your final card—will cost you the win: you must draw two penalty cards, and your last card is not played. Announcing "Last Card" incorrectly also incurs a two-card penalty. You may press the "Last Card" button even when it's not your turn to ensure you don’t forget.
If you successfully play your last card, you win the round—unless that card is a special card (see details below).
-Special Cards
Whenever a card is placed on the discard pile, it is checked to see if it has a special effect. The number or type of the card determines the action that follows. Since rules can vary across the Netherlands, you can customize these actions in the game settings to match your usual playstyle. The following actions are available:
- Joker
The next player must draw five cards from the stock. However, if that player holds a Joker, they may play it, making the following player draw ten cards instead. Each Joker played increases the penalty by five cards. When drawing cards, the player cannot play any of them, and the turn passes to the next player.
- Two
The next player must draw two cards. If that player has a Two, they may play it instead, forcing the next player to draw four cards. Each Two played adds two more cards to the penalty. Depending on options, a Joker may also be played on a Two—adding five cards to the draw. A Two cannot be played on a Joker. If you draw cards, you cannot play any, and the turn moves on.
- Seven
You must play another card on top of the Seven. If you also have your last card, remember to announce "Last Card." If you cannot play another card, you must draw one from the stock.
- Eight
The next player loses their turn, and the following player goes instead. In a two-player game, this means you get another turn—similar to the Seven.
