Sony has announced the formation of a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which is set to debut with an exciting new game. In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group, shared that teamLFG was initially developed at Bungie, the creators of Destiny and Marathon, and is now working on an ambitious incubation project.
The name teamLFG stands for 'Looking For Group,' reflecting its focus on social gaming. The studio's first game is described as a team-based action game that blends elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster friendship, community, and belonging among players.
teamLFG emphasizes creating games where players can find joy in discovering their teammates online, celebrating memorable plays, and building lasting relationships. "We want our players to feel excited when they log on to discover their teammates already hanging out online. We want our players to recognize familiar names and to make myths and memes out of each other. We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff," the studio stated.
The studio is committed to developing immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with for countless hours, learning, playing, and mastering the game. teamLFG plans to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can react to player feedback both before and after the game's launch, fostering a dynamic live service experience.

The incubation project that led to teamLFG's formation was spun out of Bungie amid significant layoffs in 2023. After Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs affecting 100 employees in November 2023 and another 220 in 2024, with 155 being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was during this period that the incubation project was announced.
A former Bungie lawyer recently praised Sony's role in pushing through improvements for Destiny 2, highlighting the positive impact of Sony's involvement. Since then, Bungie has unveiled the extraction shooter Marathon and confirmed the future roadmap for Destiny 2. However, plans for Destiny 3 have been abandoned, and a Destiny spinoff, Payback, has been canceled.
