Application Description

High-Quality USB Camera Viewer & HDMI Display

Transform your device into a portable display for cameras, gaming consoles, laptops, PCs, or other devices with HDMI output using an HDMI to USB C dongle, also known as a UVC capture device or Video Capture Card. Note that this is not the same as a USB C hub or a USB C to HDMI cable.

Devices such as cameras, endoscopes, and microscopes that feature USB streaming are also supported by Noir. This app supports UVC video streaming and UAC audio streaming, with the option to use either OpenGL ES or Vulkan for the graphics backend.

The free version of Noir provides essential functions and a seamless experience, albeit with ads outside the preview area. Upgrade to the pro version to unlock additional features and contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of Noir.

FAQ

  1. Why doesn't Noir recognize my device?

Your phone or tablet might not support USB Host (OTG), or the device you're using may not be a Video Capture Card. Additionally, your device may not supply enough power for the capture card, in which case a USB hub could provide the necessary power.

  2. Why is the preview so laggy?

Lag can be attributed to the USB version. For USB 3.0 capture cards, ensure both the USB data cable and the USB port on your device are USB 3.0. For USB 2.0 capture cards, use MJPEG video format and stay within 1080p30fps, though some cards can handle up to 1080p50fps.

  3. Why did my capture card, which was working fine, suddenly fail to connect?

This issue typically arises from system-related problems. A simple restart of your phone or tablet can often resolve this.

  4. Why does my gaming console or video playback device show a black screen when connected?

This is often seen with PS5 and PS4 due to HDCP being enabled. Disable HDCP on your PS console through Settings -> System -> HDMI. Note that PS3 does not allow HDCP to be turned off. Other devices may also automatically enable HDCP, causing a black screen. Some HDMI splitters can bypass HDCP, but exploring this solution is up to you.

  5. Why are resolutions other than 16:9 and 4:3 not supported?

Current capture cards on the market primarily support 16:9 and 4:3 ratios. You can adjust to other ratios using Noir's Stretch feature, provided your capture card's EDID supports it and you set your device's output resolution accordingly.
