Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This highly anticipated title, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, offering a deeply personal gaming experience centered around players' memories.
A Game Forged From Personal Memories
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading T1D research organization), provided a glimpse into Proxi's innovative gameplay. Players input their personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes within a unique 3D environment called the "mind world." This world, composed of interconnected hexagons, allows for exploration and interaction with personalized representations of friends and family (called Proxies).
Wright emphasized the game's focus on creating "magical connections" with memories, bringing them to life in a vibrant, interactive way. Scenes can be customized using in-game assets, and memories (referred to as "mems") are arranged on a timeline, connecting them to specific Proxies to accurately reflect the original events. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, including Minecraft and Roblox.
The core design philosophy behind Proxi is rooted in a deeply personalized experience. Wright humorously noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," highlighting the game's focus on the player's own life and experiences.
