Epic Launches Lego-Style Helldivers 4-Player PvE Mode

Before Fortnite revolutionized the battle royale genre, Epic Games originally launched the shooter as a cooperative PVE experience called Save the World, where teams fought together against zombie hordes.

Now, Fortnite revisits its origins with Lego Fortnite Expeditions - a brand new mission-based PVE mode for teams of up to four players. This innovative blend combines Fortnite's existing Lego mechanics with the squad-based action of PlayStation hits like Helldivers.

In Expeditions, players begin at the Academy hub where they select combat missions across three distinct locations. Completing missions contributes to global Team Projects that unlock universal buffs and new mission types. Between missions, players can relax at the Academy and take on Assignments from familiar Fortnite characters.

At launch, Expeditions features three map locations and three upgradeable hero classes. The Shadow Caller can soar through the air delivering explosive ranged attacks or vanish in Shadow Form to evade danger. The Hunter wields the Bull's-eye Blade, marking targets to amplify damage and enhance team accuracy. Meanwhile, the Rift Ripper warps across the battlefield, firing rift crystals while supporting teammates.

Epic Games designed Expeditions to become another permanent Fortnite experience, joining their survival-based Lego Odyssey and life-simulator Lego Brick Life modes. Unlike these standalone experiences, Expeditions directly ties into Fortnite's main Battle Royale storyline.

The mode debuts with players combating Mask Maker Daigo and his forces while teaming up with Battle Royale heroes like Jonesy and Hope. The reveal trailer even features current season elements including the Super logo and crossover hero Superman, suggesting future seasonal integrations.

This expansion arrives during Fortnite's new superhero season, which followed the explosive Star Wars Death Star event. The week brings additional content with Blitz Royale - a fast-paced 32-player battle royale optimized for mobile gameplay. Both Blitz Royale and Lego Fortnite Expeditions launch on June 18.
