Elden Ring Continues Its Momentum in 2025

While the Elden Ring live-action movie may not arrive in the immediate future, the video game series continues to thrive with new releases. The original Elden Ring game launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as one of the most beloved titles of all time, selling over 13.4 million copies within its first five weeks. By April 2025, worldwide sales reached an impressive 30 million copies, as celebrated by the official Elden Ring X (Twitter) account, which thanked all the Tarnished who journeyed through the Lands Between. The game also ranks among the most decorated in video game history, earning over 324 Game of the Year awards from various media outlets and ceremonies. Its 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, garnered similar acclaim.
FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down, greeting 2025 with not one, but two new releases. First, the Elden Ring spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, is a cooperative action game set in the realm of Limveld. Players become Nightfarers, tasked with halting the rise of the Nightlord. The game incorporates familiar elements from the original Elden Ring but reimagines them for a fresh multiplayer co-op experience. Nightreign is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30.
Second, the complete Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is slated for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. This edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and a customization feature for the three variants of Torrent the Spectral Steed. Although it won't be a launch title for the highly anticipated console, fans can expect Elden Ring to arrive on the Switch 2 in the near future.
