Russian Checkers 8×8
In Russian checkers, white initiates the game, and all movements are restricted to dark squares. A crucial rule is the mandatory capture: if a capture is possible, it must be made. Players can capture both forward and backward. Kings have the freedom to move and capture along any diagonal. The Turkish strike rule applies, allowing only one capture per opponent's piece per move. If multiple capture options exist, players can choose any, not necessarily the longest. Upon reaching the opponent's edge, a checker is immediately crowned a king and may continue playing as a king if an opportunity arises.
A draw is declared under several conditions, including if a player with multiple pieces against a single king cannot capture the king within a set number of moves, if the balance of forces doesn't change over a specified number of moves, or if the same position recurs three or more times.
International Checkers 10×10
Similar to Russian checkers, International checkers also begin with white and restrict movement to dark squares. Mandatory captures and the ability to capture in both directions apply. Kings can move and capture freely along diagonals. The Turkish strike rule is in effect, but the majority rule requires players to choose the capture that removes the most opponent pieces when multiple options are available. A unique aspect is that a checker reaching the opponent's edge during a capture continues as a regular checker, only becoming a king if it ends its move at the edge. A newly crowned king must wait until the next turn to move as a king.
