Tute Cabrero is a beloved and competitive card game that hails from South America. Played by 3 to 5 players, the game features an all-against-all format with no teams, making every match a battle of individual skill and strategy.
The main objective in Tute Cabrero is to either accumulate the most points or the fewest points, depending on the variation being played—commonly referred to as "ir a más" (go to more) or "ir a menos" (go to less). In this unique twist, the second-place finisher is considered the loser, adding an extra layer of tension to every round.
The game is played using a standard 40-card Spanish deck, where each card holds a specific point value. The ranking of cards, from highest to lowest, is as follows:
- Ace (11 points)
- Three (10 points)
- King (4 points)
- Knight (3 points)
- Jack (2 points)
- Seven, Six, Five, Four, and Two (no point value)
During gameplay, the first card played in a trick sets the leading suit. All other players must follow that suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card. The trump suit always takes precedence in winning the trick. When no trump cards are played, the highest card of the leading suit wins the round.
