Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members now have access to an exciting new feature: the ability to stream games directly to their Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One consoles without needing to download them. This development was announced today via an Xbox Wire post, highlighting that members can now stream games from the Game Pass catalog and even "select games they own" via cloud streaming.
Previously, this streaming capability was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but this marks its debut on Xbox consoles. This feature offers a significant advantage, allowing users to bypass lengthy download times and conserve valuable hard drive space.
To utilize this streaming feature on an Xbox console, follow these steps:
- Go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
- Cloud playable games will show a cloud badge on their game page. Use the filters to find them quickly by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming.
- To start playing, select the game and then choose Play with Cloud Gaming.
- You can also start streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud playable games.
Conversely, if you have games installed on your Xbox, you can stream them to devices with supported web browsers using this link. Note that while this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app, it remains available on smartphones via the browser link. Xbox is also expanding this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.
Additionally, Xbox has announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play.
