Microsoft unveiled two groundbreaking Xbox-branded handheld devices during their Summer Game Fest 2025 showcase, developed in partnership with ASUS. The Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X represent a fusion of Xbox and Windows platforms optimized for portable gaming - demonstrated live with Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay.
Codenamed Project Kennan, these devices feature a streamlined Xbox interface prioritizing gaming accessibility. Both models integrate Game Pass alongside third-party storefronts like Steam and Epic Games Store.

The white Xbox Ally serves as the entry model featuring:
- AMD Ryzen Z2 A chipset
- 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
- 512GB SSD storage
- 720p gaming capability
Its premium counterpart, the black Xbox Ally X boasts upgraded specs:
- AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor (50 TOPs NPU)
- 24GB high-speed RAM
- 1TB SSD
- 7" 1080p/120Hz display
- 900p-1080p gaming resolution

Microsoft's Shawn Yen highlighted efficiency as the core design philosophy:
