'It's Just Fine the Way It Is' — Back to the Future Screenwriter Insists There Will 'Never' Be a Prequel, Spinoff, or Back to the Future 4

The iconic "Back to the Future" franchise is firmly rooted in the past, according to its screenwriter Bob Gale. Despite the buzz created by the co-creators of "Cobra Kai" about a potential "Back to the Future" TV series, Gale remains steadfast in his stance against any revival, expansion, or continuation of the beloved trilogy.

In an interview with People, Gale expressed his frustration and bewilderment at the persistent speculation. "I don't know why they keep talking about that!" he exclaimed. "I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?" His message to fans hoping for more "Back to the Future" content is clear and unwavering: "Never." Whether it's a sequel, prequel, or spinoff, Gale insists that the franchise is complete as it stands. "It's just fine the way it is," he stated, echoing director Robert Zemeckis's sentiment that it's "perfect enough."

While Gale's position is firm, he acknowledges the potential influence of corporate powers in Hollywood. "If the juggernaut of corporate America or corporate international mishigas says, 'If you don't agree to this, we're going to kill your children,' alright, well, no, we don't want our children killed,'" he quipped, highlighting the extreme measures that would be needed to sway him. However, any revival would also require the approval of executive producer Steven Spielberg, who Gale believes shares their sentiment. "Steven Spielberg, of course, he's got to sign off on it too. And Steven, just like Steven won't allow another E.T., he totally respects the fact that we don't want any more Back to the Future. He gets it and always stood behind that. And thank you, Steven."

Gale's consistent stance against furthering the "Back to the Future" saga was reiterated in February when he bluntly told fans asking about "Back to the Future 4," "People always say, ‘When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?' And we say, ‘F\*\*k you.' "
