The writer of the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy, David S. Goyer, has expressed his readiness to collaborate with Marvel chief Kevin Feige to revive Mahershala Ali’s stalled MCU reboot of Blade. Despite initial excitement, the project has encountered numerous setbacks and seems to be at a standstill with little hope of resuming.
Last month, rapper and artist Flying Lotus revealed on X/Twitter that he was initially involved in writing music for the new Blade movie before the project fell through. He expressed doubts about its revival, stating, "Maybe it'll come around again but I doubt it. Would have been fun tho." This statement followed closely after costume designer Ruth E. Carter confirmed on The John Campea Show that she was set to design costumes for a 1920s-set version of Blade before the production collapsed.
Actor Delroy Lindo, who was also set to star alongside Ali, shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly, noting the initial inclusivity and excitement around the project that ultimately "went off the rails."
Blade was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with a planned release in November of the current year, but the film has seen several directors come and go, including Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq. Seven months ago, Blade was removed from Marvel’s release schedule, with no new date confirmed. Despite this, Feige remains committed to the project, emphasizing Marvel's dedication to bringing Blade into the MCU in an interview with Omelete in November 2024.
Meanwhile, the MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, which featured a cameo by Wesley Snipes reprising his role as Blade, was a massive success, grossing $1.3 billion globally. Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds has advocated for a Logan-like send-off film for Snipes' Blade, acknowledging the original Blade films' pivotal role in establishing the market for superhero movies. Reynolds credited Blade with paving the way for the Fox Marvel Universe and the MCU, calling Snipes "Marvel Daddy" on X/Twitter.
Reynolds is also reportedly in the early stages of developing a Deadpool and X-Men ensemble film, where Deadpool would share the spotlight with several X-Men characters, allowing them to be "used in unexpected ways."
