Unlocking the Deep Woods: A Guide for Fields of Mistria Players

Author : Sarah Jun 02,2025

Since Fields of Mistria launched into Early Access on Steam, players have been able to spot the Deep Woods area on their town maps. However, this section of the game world remained locked away until the March 2025 update. Now, here’s everything you need to know about accessing the Deep Woods and locating Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.

The Deep Woods area becomes accessible when you successfully break the Fire Seal and use the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines blocking its entrance in Fields of Mistria. To accomplish this, you must first gather four items to place on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be discovered between Floors 50 and 59, but obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires assistance from Juniper and Balor.

To acquire the Sealing Scroll, leave the following items in the bin beside Balor’s wagon:

  • x10 Silver Ingots
  • x10 Rubies
  • x10 Sapphires
  • x10 Emeralds

After meeting these requirements, speak with Balor again, and he'll confirm that the scroll will arrive the next day. With the offerings completed, you can proceed to break the seal.

Typically, breaking a magic seal results in a farewell message from the Priestess, unlocking a new biome. This time, however, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess pleads for you to leave before the Sealing Scroll fully activates, trapping you inside. With your health drained, Caldarus appears, reverting to his human form and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

The dragon then instructs you to seek him out there, gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell—a powerful offensive ability capable of clearing obstacles across the map. Equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing near the Deep Woods’ entrance to unlock the area permanently. This spell can also reveal other hidden locations on the map.

After unlocking the Deep Woods, you can locate Caldarus within his temple, situated to the north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to gain access. Caldarus’ exact location is clearly marked on your map, just like other NPCs. Head northeast to find him inside the temple.

To reach him, proceed directly through the entrance and chop down the stump blocking your path using your axe. Continue heading north until you arrive at the temple. Caldarus awaits inside.

With the Deep Woods unlocked, you can now use the Dragon Statue on your farm to teleport instantly to the area for just 10 Essence. This saves significant time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.

Additionally, you can still interact with Caldarus via his statue, even in spirit form.
