Alongside these exciting new reveals, Disney has confirmed that EPCOT's Test Track, presented by General Motors at Walt Disney World Resort, is scheduled to reopen on July 22, 2025.
As explained on the Disney Parks Blog, this comprehensive update introduces a brand-new musical score and "new scenes highlighting how technology makes our vehicles smarter and our lives more enjoyable."
One of these new scenes demonstrates "how vehicles use advanced cameras and sensors to 'see' the world around them." It illustrates the principles behind self-driving car navigation and how LiDAR technology helps keep everyone safe.
In a shift from previous versions, Disney notes that while past iterations of Test Track existed in a "conceptual world," this new experience is firmly "rooted in reality." To achieve this, a portion of the ride will simulate a scenic drive through the Pacific Northwest.
"With our reimagined Test Track, we're celebrating the sheer joy of driving and embarking on a beautiful road trip with friends and family," said Walt Disney Imagineer Nathaniel Gearhart. "It's about creating those memorable journeys."
To bring this vision to life, the team meticulously selected four tree species—Cedar, Spruce, Maple, and Oak—to authentically represent the region. The scene features an extensive overhead canopy of foliage for added realism.
Test Track first opened in 1999 (Version 1.0), was significantly updated in 2012 (Version 2.0), and will finally debut as Test Track 3.0 in 2025, following its closure for these upgrades on June 17, 2024.
This is one of many highly anticipated experiences coming to Walt Disney World this summer. It's also a key part of our list of 14 reasons this season is an excellent time to visit, thanks to the Cool Kid Summer festivities.
