Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in "Madame Web," is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the hit video game "Split Fiction." This exciting project is being brought to life by Story Kitchen, the production company behind the successful Sonic films, which is currently assembling a talented team to bring this story to the big screen.
According to Variety, "Split Fiction" is beginning to take shape, with "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu at the helm and the screenplay penned by the acclaimed "Deadpool & Wolverine" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. With this formidable talent package, Story Kitchen is now shopping the project to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.
One of the burning questions surrounding the film is which sister Sydney Sweeney will portray: Zoe or Mio. As of now, Variety reports that the decision remains pending.
Launched just in March, "Split Fiction" has quickly become another blockbuster for Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, selling over 2 million copies within its first week. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
IGN's review of "Split Fiction" awarded it a commendable 9/10, praising its dynamic gameplay: "An expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, 'Split Fiction' is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."
Hazelight isn't stopping with "Split Fiction." Another of their successful titles, "It Takes Two," which sold 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a film, with rumors suggesting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may star.
While there's always a chance these projects may not come to fruition, the current success of video game adaptations in Hollywood suggests strong interest and potential for these Hazelight films.
Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other adaptations, including a film based on Square Enix's "Just Cause" with "Blue Beetle" director Ángel Manuel Soto attached. The company is also working on adaptations of "Dredge: The Movie," "Kingmakers," "Sleeping Dogs," and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.
Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next gaming project, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's to come.
