Ninja Gaiden 4: A New Era Begins
Developed collaboratively by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, Ninja Gaiden 4 marks the series' return after a 13-year hiatus. This direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3 retains the series' signature challenging yet rewarding gameplay. The partnership with Xbox is a natural progression, given their past collaborations on franchises like Dead or Alive.
A key innovation is the introduction of a new protagonist, Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan striving for mastery. Art Director Tomoko Nishii (PlatinumGames) describes Yakumo as a figure who can stand alongside the legendary Ryu Hayabusa. Producer and Director Yuji Nakao (PlatinumGames) explains that Yakumo's introduction aims to broaden the series' appeal while ensuring long-time fans remain engaged, with Ryu playing a pivotal role in the narrative.
Revamped Combat and Familiar Intensity
Ninja Gaiden 4 boasts breakneck-speed combat, retaining the brutal intensity of its predecessors. Yakumo's unique fighting style, incorporating the "Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style," alongside the traditional Raven Style, promises fresh challenges. Director Masazaku Hirayama (Team Ninja) assures fans that the action will remain true to the series' core while benefiting from PlatinumGames' expertise in fast-paced, dynamic combat. The game is currently 70-80% complete and in the polishing phase.
Release Date and Availability
Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated for a Fall 2025 release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.
