New Sony Smash-Like Game in Development

PlayStation's new studio tackles a unique MOBA: Gummy Bears. Initially developed at Bungie, this project, codenamed "Gummy Bears," has transitioned to a newly formed PlayStation studio. While details remain scarce, the game is reportedly a MOBA with a distinctive twist.

Unlike traditional MOBAs, Gummy Bears is rumored to utilize a percentage-based damage system, mirroring the mechanics of the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Instead of health bars, characters accumulate damage percentages, influencing knockback distance. High enough damage will even knock characters off the map.

The game is expected to feature standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, and Support) and multiple game modes. Its visual style is described as cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi, a significant departure from Bungie's previous work. This stylistic shift aims to attract a younger audience than Bungie's typical player base.

Development reportedly began at Bungie in 2020, spanning at least three years. The shift to a new PlayStation studio, potentially in Los Angeles, aligns with recent announcements of new PlayStation studio formations. While a release date remains unconfirmed, Gummy Bears is likely still several years from launch.
