"Skyblivion: Oblivion Fan Remake in Skyrim Engine Aims for Release This Year"

Author : Lillian May 22,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made project that remakes The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. This exciting news was confirmed by the mod team during a recent developer update stream, where they also showcased the impressive work completed so far. A labor of love crafted by a dedicated team of volunteer developers, Skyblivion represents a monumental modding effort that has consumed years of their time and energy.

Despite the challenges, the Skyblivion team remains committed to their 2025 target. In their latest update, they expressed optimism about meeting or even surpassing their own timeline, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation."

Calling Skyblivion a mere one-to-one remake would not do justice to the extensive work being done. The developers are not only recreating the game but also enhancing various aspects of the original. This includes ensuring that "unique items are actually unique" and making existing bosses, such as Mannimarco, more formidable. The team highlighted the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest during their livestream, showcasing the stunning visuals of the painted world.

Adding an intriguing layer to the project is the long-rumored official remake of Oblivion by Microsoft and Bethesda. Earlier this year, alleged details emerged about potential changes to combat and other elements in the remake, though Microsoft declined to comment to IGN. Additionally, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023 inadvertently revealed an Oblivion remaster. While some projects like the Indiana Jones game have since been released, others, including the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters, remain unconfirmed.

The potential official remake poses a unique challenge for Skyblivion. Bethesda has a rich history of supporting modding communities across their titles, from older games to the latest, Starfield. However, the existence of an official remake could impact the fan-made project. The team hopes to avoid the fate of Fallout London, which encountered difficulties right before its intended launch.
