Sanderson: Wheel of Time Fans 'Deserved Better' After Season 3, Petition for Season 4 Gains 120,000 Signatures

The future of *The Wheel of Time* television series appears increasingly uncertain following Amazon Prime Video’s decision to cancel the show after Season 3. According to recent reports, the series is not currently being pitched to other streaming platforms, effectively leaving its fate in limbo. The news has been met with disappointment from fans who felt that Season 3 had finally brought the adaptation closer to the spirit of the beloved book series.

The cancellation came after what Deadline described as “lengthy deliberations” by Amazon executives. While there was internal appreciation for the show, financial concerns ultimately led to the decision. With rising production costs shared between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios—also responsible for the high-budget *The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power*—the numbers simply didn’t add up for a fourth season.

Brandon Sanderson Speaks Out

Brandon Sanderson, who completed Robert Jordan’s iconic fantasy series, shared his thoughts on the cancellation via comments on one of his YouTube videos. Though he wasn’t heavily involved in the show’s development, Sanderson expressed regret over how things turned out:

“I wasn't really involved. Don't know anything more than what is public. They told me they were renegotiating, and thought it would work out. Then I heard nothing for two months. Then learned this from the news like everyone else.”

Sanderson added that while he had personal frustrations with being sidelined during the process, he sympathized with fans who had seen Season 3 as a turning point and hoped for more:

“I do think it's a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancelation after the best season. I won't miss being largely ignored; they wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.”

No New Home in Sight

In addition to the cancellation, TVLine reported that no efforts are underway to find a new streaming home for the series. Despite an online petition signed by over 120,000 fans urging the continuation of the show, insiders claim that the likelihood of revival remains slim. The campaign’s message is clear: “Finish the story. It deserves to be told in full!”

While some fans have speculated that Apple TV+, known for backing big-budget genre shows, might step in, most industry observers consider such hopes unrealistic given Apple’s already packed slate of original programming.

A Disappointing End?

With no clear path forward, *The Wheel of Time* TV series seems to have reached its conclusion—a bitter pill for many who believed the show was finally hitting its stride. For now, fans are left with a partial adaptation of one of fantasy literature’s most revered sagas, raising questions about the challenges of bringing such a complex and ambitious story to the screen.
