Mark Hamill's unexpected appearance as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian ranks among Star Wars' most jaw-dropping reveals. At Star Wars Celebration, Rosario Dawson confessed she remained unaware of his cameo until Hamill himself stepped onto The Book of Boba Fett set.
While it's known that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau used Jedi Master Plo Koon as a decoy to conceal Luke's surprise appearance, our interview uncovered the comical moment when Dawson—through pure oversight—experienced one of her career's greatest shocks upon learning the truth.

To protect this monumental secret, scripts consistently replaced Luke with Plo Koon—a precaution that extended to Dawson's materials. She described reading about Plo Koon's involvement in The Book of Boba Fett scripts with genuine confusion, mirroring fans' bewilderment given the Jedi Master's definitive demise in Revenge of the Sith.
"My reaction was... uncertain," Dawson admitted. "Characters sometimes return unexpectedly, so I tried rationalizing it. Then Mark Hamill appeared on set—total shock! He joked, 'Plo Koon? That makes zero sense!' to which I responded, 'I knew it didn't, but the script forced me to accept it!'"
Favreau and Filoni instantly acknowledged their oversight: "Our bad for not looping you in sooner!"
"We assumed you'd been properly briefed," Filoni chuckled. "We were too deep in the deception."
"Two revelations demanded absolute secrecy," Favreau explained. "Grogu's first-episode debut and Luke's season-two finale appearance. Despite constant leaks elsewhere, both remained surprises—though unfortunately at Rosario's expense."
Dawson good-naturedly concluded, "They clearly don't trust me with secrets—and honestly, they're right!"
