R.E.P.O Console Release: What to Expect

R.E.P.O., the thrilling co-op horror game that hit the scene in February, has captured the hearts of over 200,000 PC gamers. But what about console players? Will R.E.P.O. make its way to your favorite gaming platform? Here's the latest scoop.

Is R.E.P.O. Coming to Consoles?

As of now, R.E.P.O. remains exclusively a PC game, and it might stay that way indefinitely. The game's developer, semiwork, has not hinted at any plans for a console version. Currently, their focus is squarely on perfecting the game's multiplayer experience, which has encountered some challenges.

The primary hurdle is dealing with hackers in matchmaking lobbies. semiwork is grappling with the need for an anti-cheat system, which unfortunately conflicts with the mods that many players enjoy. As the developer explained, "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that" (via PCGamer). This issue must be resolved before any thoughts of a console port can be entertained.

While other PC-exclusive games like Mouthwashing have transitioned to consoles, it's worth noting that Mouthwashing is a single-player game, making the transition smoother. Games like Lethal Company and Content Warning, which share a similar theme of evading monsters, have also stayed PC-only. Last year, the developers of Content Warning mentioned considering a console release but cited technical difficulties. Since then, no further updates have been shared.
