Dynasty Warriors: Origins lacks a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting offers decent speed, traversing large battlefields to rescue officers and secure victory often requires faster travel.
This is where your mount comes in, summonable at any time during overworld exploration or combat. You can even engage in combat while mounted, ideal for hit-and-run tactics. Here's how to acquire your first horse, enhance its abilities, and switch between different mounts.
How To Unlock Your First Steed in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your initial mount is a free gift! After completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," in Chapter 1, a merchant appears in the overworld. You'll likely encounter him on your route to the Battle Of Guangzong. He's located northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp. Simply speak to him to receive your horse, which will be automatically equipped.
Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or V (keyboard).
How To Level Up Your Mount in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions, even if you don't actively ride it. XP is earned from missions and main story battles, but not skirmishes. Missions are indicated by a red diamond with a soldier icon. The XP gained depends on battle duration and your usage of the horse, including charging into enemies. Leveling up unlocks unique buffs for each horse at specific intervals.
How To Change Mounts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your first horse is automatically equipped, but you can acquire and equip others. Manage your mounts in the Battle Preparation menu; it's the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse possesses unique advantages, with some being inherently faster or more effective. Consider switching to optimize your performance. New mounts are rewarded for achieving maximum peace levels in a region; the reward will be available at a nearby waypoint.
