Rumors are swirling that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 could hit the market by the end of 2025. Alongside this, whispers of a next-gen upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S have surfaced. According to GameReactor, insiders close to Rockstar Games have hinted at the development of a Switch 2 port of the Wild West epic, accompanied by a "next-gen upgrade patch" designed to enhance the game's performance on current-gen consoles.

While specifics remain elusive, GameReactor's sources suggest that both the port and the upgrade could launch as early as this year. This aligns with reports from Nintenduo, which indicate that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. Whether the game will be available digitally or also offered in a physical format is still up in the air.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by IGN, earning a perfect 10/10 score. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised the game as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

The possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to the Switch 2 shouldn't shock fans, especially after comments from Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, in a recent Q&A with investors. Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform, highlighting improved support for third-party publishers. He mentioned plans to launch four titles on the Switch 2, stating, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform. Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform."

Zelnick emphasized that game releases are considered on a case-by-case basis, aiming to be where consumers are, while also noting the potential for catalog opportunities. He specifically mentioned that Take-Two is set to bring Civilization 7 on launch day (June 5), along with the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (timing unspecified), and Borderlands 4 (September 12). These titles continue Take-Two's established presence on the Nintendo Switch. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that the door is open for other titles from their catalog, possibly including Red Dead Redemption 2 or even GTA V, though GTA 6 seems unlikely.
