The Pokémon Company is tackling supply shortages for the newest Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) set, Prismatic Evolutions, as noted in an IGN report from January 16, 2025.

“We recognize that some fans may have trouble finding certain Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions products at launch due to high demand affecting supply,” a Pokémon Company spokesperson stated. “We know this can be frustrating for fans and are moving quickly to print more of the affected TCG products as soon as possible, operating at full capacity.”

Although fans may need to wait a bit longer to obtain the new set, it’s good to know The Pokémon Company is prioritizing restocking to meet demand.

Pokémon TCG Prismatic Evolutions Shortage Impacts US Local Stores

The shortage of the Prismatic Evolutions expansion was first highlighted on the Pokémon TCG fan site PokeBeach on January 4, 2025.

The report indicated that local Pokémon stores across the US are struggling with limited inventory due to unexpectedly high demand. “One big factor is that stores that don’t usually carry Pokémon are now requesting this set from distributors,” explained Deguire, owner of Player 1 Services, a major Pokémon store in Maryland.

With increased orders from various stores, distributors cut local retailer allocations by 10% to 15%. As a result, smaller stores have faced the biggest impact, as inventory was spread thin “to supply as many stores as possible and maintain business relationships,” while larger retailers like GameStop and Target received their full shipments.

The shortage could also lead to price increases for certain Prismatic Evolutions products. According to the report, the unreleased Elite Trainer Box is already listed on resale markets for $127, compared to its $55 retail price. However, once The Pokémon Company increases supply, scalpers may lower prices or avoid stockpiling the new expansion.
