Pokémon Company Tackles TCG Shortages, Scalpers Post-Destined Rivals

Author : Matthew May 18,2025

The Pokémon Company has taken note of the challenges fans have faced in obtaining recent Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sets. In a recent announcement, they've confirmed plans for reprints and are actively working to ensure more products reach fans.

The launch of the latest set, Destined Rivals, was marred by shortages, pre-order issues, and scalping activities. Other sought-after sets like Prismatic Evolutions and the Blooming Waters box have also been hard to come by due to high demand.

In their statement on the official Pokémon website, The Pokémon Company acknowledged that "some fans are experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products due to very high demand impacting availability."

They expressed understanding of the fans' disappointment and assured that they are "actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity." The reprints are expected to be available at participating retailers soon.

The company also plans to "maximize production" for upcoming TCG expansions to ensure better availability at launch and will "continue to reprint impacted products" to restock, including at the Pokémon Center.

Addressing the issue of scalping indirectly, The Pokémon Company stated their commitment to "providing a smooth purchasing experience" at the Pokémon Center. They employ technology, such as a virtual queue during high traffic periods, to prioritize fans. The company is dedicated to exploring further measures to enhance the shopping experience for Pokémon Center customers.

The Pokémon Company expressed gratitude for the community's support and patience as they strive to deliver more Pokémon TCG products to fans.

With these efforts, fans can hopefully look forward to a less stressful experience when collecting and playing the Pokémon TCG with the arrival of new sets.
