Following the unveiling of Nintendo Switch 2, the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox appears poised to continue. Microsoft's gaming chief Phil Spencer recently reinforced his commitment to the Switch platform as a strategic channel to engage audiences beyond Xbox's ecosystem.
In a Variety interview discussing potential Switch 2 projects, Spencer confirmed Xbox intends to support Nintendo's next-gen console just as it has with the original Switch. "Nintendo remains an outstanding partner," Spencer noted. "The platform uniquely connects us with non-PC and non-Xbox gamers, allowing us to expand our community around beloved franchises—this alignment remains crucial for our ongoing game investments."
"I truly value Nintendo's industry impact and our continued partnership," Spencer added. "Their support for our franchises will be vital moving forward."
Spencer has consistently championed Switch 2 since its initial teaser, praising Nintendo's innovation while confirming Xbox's multiplatform strategy encompassing PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.
Despite Switch 2's announcement, Spencer dismissed suggestions it affected Xbox's roadmap timing. "Our focus remains on community-building," he explained. "While inspired by fellow creators and platforms, we're confident in our strategic plans."
The executive reiterated Xbox's commitment to broad game accessibility across cloud, PC, and consoles. Following successful ports like Pentiment and Grounded to Switch, industry observers await Xbox's next Switch 2 offerings post-launch.
