Mastering the Art of Parrying in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Parrying in Avowed offers a thrilling counter-attack mechanic, turning enemy aggression into devastating opportunities. This guide details how to unlock and effectively utilize this crucial skill.
Unlocking the Parry Ability:

The Parry ability isn't immediately available. Navigate to the "Abilities" menu, then select the "Ranger" tab. You'll find Parry in the top middle column. To unlock it, invest an Ability point into any of the three core skill trees. Three ranks exist, each requiring a specific level:
| Rank | Player Level Requirement | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | N/A (1 Point Spent) | Unlocks the Parry ability. |
| 2 | Player Level 5 | 25% increased parry efficiency; greater enemy stun. |
| 3 | Player Level 8 | 50% increased parry efficiency; greater enemy stun. |
At level 10, unlock "Arrow Deflection" to parry projectiles.
Executing a Parry:
Time your block just before an enemy attack connects. A metallic clang and a visual cue confirm a successful parry, stunning your opponent. Mastering the timing requires practice, but it's less demanding than in titles like Dark Souls.
Limitations of Parrying:
Not all attacks are parryable; red circles indicate attacks requiring dodging. Furthermore, only melee weapons (one-handed, two-handed, or a shield in your off-hand) allow parrying. Ranged weapons and grimoires cannot parry.
Benefits of Parrying:
Parrying stuns enemies, creating openings for significant damage. It's ideal for melee builds, maximizing damage while minimizing incoming attacks. However, ranged builds may find it less beneficial. Avowed's respec system allows easy adjustment if you change your playstyle.
