Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for its much-anticipated crossplay update, slated for release in late March 2025. This exciting update promises to bring multiplayer functionality across all platforms and introduce world transfer capabilities for Pals, enhancing the gaming experience for its vast community.
In a recent post on X/Twitter, Pocketpair shared a glimpse of what's to come with a promotional image featuring Palworld characters engaged in battle with a formidable Pal. John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update, sparking curiosity and anticipation among fans.
This news comes as a boon for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the wildly popular creature-catching survival game.
Since its launch on Steam at $30 and its simultaneous release on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, Palworld has shattered sales and concurrent player records. The overwhelming success caught Pocketpair by surprise, with CEO Takuro Mizobe admitting that the studio struggled to manage the massive profits generated. In response, Pocketpair quickly moved to expand its reach, forming Palworld Entertainment with Sony to broaden the IP and bring the game to PS5.
However, looming over these developments is a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted the mechanics of summoning Pals in the game and remains steadfast in its resolve to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
