Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Amid High Demand

Author : Riley May 28,2025

Nintendo has issued a crucial update regarding the release-day delivery of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5. The company has cautioned its U.S. fans that due to overwhelming demand, delivery by the release date cannot be guaranteed for those who registered their interest through the My Nintendo Store. This follows a similar warning issued to fans in Japan, indicating a global struggle to meet the demand for the next-gen console.

In a statement on their website, Nintendo expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm shown by fans and highlighted the challenges they face in fulfilling orders promptly. "Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store," the statement read. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."

The company also suggested that fans might have a better chance of securing a console at launch by pre-ordering from third-party retailers. However, this advice comes as pre-orders at these retailers, including GameStop, have already sold out. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," Nintendo advised, linking to GameStop where the console is currently unavailable.

For those who prefer to wait for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store, no further action is required after registering interest. The struggle to pre-order the Switch 2, which began on April 24, coupled with these warnings, suggests that obtaining the console around its launch date will be challenging.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that in Japan alone, 2.2 million people applied to pre-order the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding the company's expectations and available stock for the launch date. This has led Nintendo to implement a staggered invitation system for U.S. customers, with the first batch of invitations set to be sent out starting May 8, 2025. Additional batches will follow periodically until the purchasing window is opened to everyone.

The initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. These criteria include having purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, maintaining that membership for at least 12 months, and having opted into sharing gameplay data with at least 50 hours of total gameplay. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. They also confirmed that the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle would remain priced at $499.99, with no changes to the pricing of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) at launch. However, due to ongoing tariff issues, the prices of Switch 2 accessories have been raised.

Nintendo had initially planned to open pre-orders on April 9 but delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions.
