Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new layer of interactivity to the console's user interface. Ever since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has been buzzing with excitement and speculation about the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we received official confirmation that these Joy-Con controllers can indeed switch into a "mouse mode," allowing users to slide them across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, players have the flexibility to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at once, one in each hand, or combine one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for a hybrid control setup.
The latest update, showcased through the Nintendo Today app and shared across X/Twitter, reveals that the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." The process is straightforward: simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface, and as you move it, a cursor will follow on the screen. Additionally, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo stated, confirming that these controls are also functional within the Home menu and compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full extent of game compatibility remains under wraps, Nintendo has demonstrated this technology in action with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to make its debut on June 5. Pre-orders for the console opened on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
