Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for two popular Switch games transitioning from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Unfortunately, the price tag for these upgrades is quite steep.
While upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, NintendoLife has noted that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, along with achievements and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition features "Jamboree TV," a new suite of content that leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera, which is sold separately. Additionally, this edition offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, a better frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.
Although U.S. prices have not yet been confirmed on the American Nintendo eShop, possibly due to the uncertainty surrounding President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 required for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a potential U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost could be linked to the substantial $80 price of the full Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch versions, priced at $59.99 each.
For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the full Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders commenced on April 24, maintaining a fixed price of $449.99. The demand has been extremely high, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers pre-ordering from the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery cannot be guaranteed.
