While there's a dedicated side quest for finding Mutt, we can shortcut the process. The missing hound resides near a wolf cave southwest of the Nomads' Camp, just east of the river bathing area. Below you'll find a reference image pinning his exact location.
Travel efficiently by fast-traveling to the Nomads' Camp, then head southwest along the forest path. This route typically leads you above the cave entrance. Listen carefully for Mutt's whimpers as you near the site - follow the sounds to discover him in a clearing surrounded by wolves.
Approaching triggers a cutscene introducing both Mutt and his lupine companions, along with a tutorial on commanding your canine ally in combat. You'll face a choice: engage the wolves or retreat hastily. Considering wildlife presents manageable combat challenges, confronting them offers decent skill-building opportunities.
After resolving the wolf encounter (through battle or escape), you'll gain control over Mutt. Press L1 while facing him to access interaction options - feed him from your inventory or send him home as needed.
Finding Mutt During the Invaders Side Quest
Important note: You may naturally encounter this wolf cave while progressing the Invaders questline, particularly if engaging with the Cumans. After drinking with them, a drunken Henry follows Vasko uphill toward the cave while seeking more alcohol, automatically initiating the Mutt encounter scene while intoxicated.
For optimal results, we strongly recommend locating and rescuing Mutt during daylight before advancing the Invaders quest. Attempting to handle wolves while drunk in the dark proves exceptionally challenging - poor visibility often leads to fatal falls during attempted escapes.
