Minor spoilers ahead for The Minecraft Movie.
The creative team behind The Minecraft Movie shared with IGN that one of the film's most hilarious moments drew inspiration from The NeverEnding Story.
In one standout sequence, Jack Black's character Steve desperately clings to Jason Momoa's Garrett mid-flight after running out of Elytra wings for himself and Sebastian Hansen's Henry. This chaotic aerial scramble creates brilliant physical comedy as Steve scrambles to avoid plunging hundreds of feet. Surprisingly, this laugh-out-loud moment carries deeper cinematic roots.
"We intentionally crafted a Falkor-inspired moment from The Neverending Story – initially majestic before descending into hilarious chaos," director Jared Hess explained.
Producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson recalled: "Between takes, Jack would sit atop Jason in their complex rigging, spontaneously singing The NeverEnding Story theme while riding him like Falkor. The crew couldn't stop laughing."
The callback carries extra weight since Black actually appeared in The NeverEnding Story 3. For Momoa, the scene became particularly special through his creative contributions.
"I helped shape this sequence," Momoa laughed. "After Top Gun: Maverick's release, we envisioned dramatic swoops and sudden brakes – Jack sliding down my back mid-air. Our hotel room brainstorming sessions paid off phenomenally."
Black humorously noted: "Early versions might've pushed ratings boundaries, but we ultimately kept it family-friendly!"

Momoa perfectly recreated their on-set dynamic (captured in behind-the-scenes footage).
"You've got to follow my hip movements! Can't just sit there expecting majesty," Momoa joked. "I was in stitches the whole time."
