Michael Douglas, the esteemed actor known for his role as Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has indicated that he is likely finished with his Marvel journey. Douglas has graced the big screen as the shrinking scientist in all three Ant-Man films, including the latest, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" in 2023, and also featured in "Avengers: Endgame." However, with the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" now in production, fans might not get to see Hank Pym one last time.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Douglas expressed his doubts about returning to the MCU. "I don't think so," he stated when asked about participating in another Marvel project. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." Douglas, who has largely retired from acting, has only taken on Marvel projects for his recent big-screen appearances while continuing his work as a producer, boasting over a dozen credits in that role.
Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas shared, "I'd never done a green screen picture before. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time." He had previously expressed a desire for Hank Pym's character to be killed off in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" to complete the character's arc and heighten the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man, but Marvel's decision-makers chose a different path.

The lukewarm reception and box office performance of "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" have cast doubts on the future of the Ant-Man series. However, Paul Rudd is confirmed to reprise his role in "Avengers: Doomsday." As for other members of the Ant-Man family, including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, their return seems uncertain. In June 2024, Lilly announced her decision to step away from acting to focus on her family, further diminishing the likelihood of her character, Wasp, appearing in "Avengers: Doomsday."
So, what can fans expect from "Avengers: Doomsday"? Recent leaks from the set suggest a surprising return of a location from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," stirring anticipation and speculation about the film's plot and character dynamics.
