Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Opening Weekend Success
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has surpassed 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game reached a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has set a new record for concurrent players each day from February 4 to February 9.
- February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players
- February 5 - 176,285 concurrent Steam players

- February 7 - 190,194 concurrent Steam players
- February 8 - 233,586 concurrent Steam players
- February 9 - 256,206 concurrent Steam players
Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
The game sold 1 million copies on its launch day, and with the current estimates of Steam sales, it's on track to approach 2 million copies sold as of this writing.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Attention To Detail
The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the game's immersion and enjoyment. The series is renowned for its commitment to realism, including features like food spoilage, the need for clothing and armor maintenance, and sword sharpening. KCD2 continues this trend by introducing new elements that enhance the 15th-century medieval experience.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players must manage their hygiene. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. He added, "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
The game also introduces "handgonnes," early firearms depicted with historical accuracy. Bittner told PC Gamer about the challenges these weapons present, such as long reload times and inaccuracy. He admitted, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."
KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy, saying, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."
Post-Launch Roadmap
Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will receive free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.
The free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, expected to launch in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will follow in Summer with "Brushes with Death," Autumn with "Legacy of the Forge," and Winter with "Mysteria Ecclesiae."
With its stellar opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success through these updates and future DLCs, potentially setting new records along the way.
