Author : Patrick May 06,2025

Following a casual mention by Microsoft in an official Xbox post, speculation about the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong has intensified due to recent backend changes to its Steam listing. On March 24, eagle-eyed fans across social media, Reddit, and various gaming communities noticed updates to the game's Steam metadata, as documented on SteamDB. These updates included an opt-in for Hollow Knight: Silksong on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming platform, along with changed assets and a significant revision to the Steam store page's legal lines, now listing the copyright as Team Cherry 2025, instead of 2019.

These changes suggest that something related to Hollow Knight: Silksong might be on the horizon, potentially pointing to a 2025 release. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans are eagerly anticipating further news, possibly even a re-reveal of the game.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, with intermittent updates and long periods of silence from Team Cherry. January saw a flurry of activity on social media, particularly on X/Twitter, from one of the developers, sparking rampant speculation about a potential re-reveal during the upcoming Switch 2 Direct. This could even include a launch exclusive for Nintendo's next-generation console.

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed that it would launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, it's one of the most-wanted games for Xbox Game Pass, following Microsoft's deal to include it on their subscription service from day one.

In June 2022, Microsoft featured Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased games would be playable within the next 12 months. This led to expectations that the much-anticipated sequel would be released within that timeframe. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted titles on Steam. In IGN's review of the original Hollow Knight, we praised the game, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight.”
