Believe it or not, despite his enduring popularity, there was a time in the late 2000s to mid-2010s when the iconic Agent 47 was considered somewhat outdated. This perception wasn't helped by the polarizing game we're discussing today: Hitman: Absolution, which is coming to mobile on October 16th.
In reality, this dip in popularity was largely due to two poorly received movies based on IO Interactive's hit franchise. However, Hitman: Absolution represented a complete reinvention for the series. It moved away from the expansive, open-ended levels of Blood Money, opting instead for a more cinematic, action-focused approach and trading its gritty spy narrative for indulgent grindhouse style.
At the time, many fans were skeptical, but over the years, interest in Absolution has seen a noticeable resurgence. Thanks to its gritty atmosphere, truly reprehensible villains, and the timeless appeal of watching Agent 47 eliminate targets in increasingly brutal and visceral ways, it remains a title well worth exploring for series enthusiasts.
The Man with the Shiny Head
Hitman: Absolution is undoubtedly the black sheep of the series. However, with the benefit of hindsight and knowing that this entry did not set a new standard for the franchise, it's much easier to appreciate its unique strengths.
The new mobile port also comes with the polished quality we've come to expect from Feral Interactive. The studio made a strong debut with their port of Alien: Isolation and continues to impress by bringing major titles to mobile devices.
