Exciting news for fans of Civilization 7: the developers at Firaxis Games have hinted at the potential return of the iconic leader, Gandhi, possibly as downloadable content (DLC). Dive deeper to understand why Gandhi was initially left out of the game's leader lineup.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Their Leaders
Hope remains alive for Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization 7. In an insightful interview with IGN on February 13, 2025, lead designer Ed Beach shared that while Gandhi might not be part of the initial release, his return as DLC is a possibility.
During the IGN interview, Beach elaborated on the decision to exclude certain civilizations and leaders from the base game. "We haven't forgotten about any of our past characters," Beach stated. "There's a lot of discussion about the absence of Great Britain or England, and why they're not in our game."
The decision to omit Britain and India from Civilization 7 stemmed from the need to make room for new and exciting civilizations. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to introduce fresh ones that excite our players," Beach explained. "Some civilizations get left behind, but we're always considering the bigger picture for when to reintroduce leaders or civilizations. So, there's still hope for Gandhi."
Given the extensive list of DLCs released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civilization 7. However, the exact timeline for his return remains uncertain at this point.
