George R.R. Martin, renowned for his work on Game of Thrones, has taken on a new role as a producer for an upcoming animated movie titled A Dozen Tough Jobs. This film, inspired by the classic Greek myth of Hercules' 12 labors, will be set in the 1920s Mississippi and viewed through the eyes of a farmer. The project, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, aims to reimagine the timeless legend with a fresh, culturally rich perspective.

While Martin will not be penning the script, that task falls to Joe R. Lansdale, known for his unique storytelling in novels like Bubba Ho-Tep, which features Elvis Presley battling an Egyptian mummy. David Steward II, head of Lion Forge Entertainment, praised Martin's involvement, stating, "If anyone understands the power of epic stories and expansive franchises, it's George R.R. Martin." He further emphasized that A Dozen Tough Jobs would be a groundbreaking take on myth, rooted in history yet venturing into new territories.

Despite his involvement in various projects, fans of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series are still eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter. It has been nearly 14 years since the release of A Dance with Dragons in July 2011, and The Winds of Winter remains without a confirmed release date. Martin has plans for one more book, A Dream of Spring, to conclude the series, a closure that the Game of Thrones TV adaptation did not wait for.

Martin has kept busy with multiple endeavors, including contributing to several Game of Thrones TV spin-offs, such as the successful House of the Dragon, and writing fictional historical novels set in the franchise's universe. Additionally, he has ventured into the gaming world, crafting backstory for Elden Ring.

In a recent blog post dated April 7, 2025, Martin expressed frustration over constant speculation about The Winds of Winter, clarifying that the book is not imminent. He noted that television projects consumed much of his time last year, further delaying his writing progress.
