*Hey, Mary!* is penned by Andrew Wheeler, known for *Cat Fight* and *Another Castle*, and illustrated by Rye Hickman, acclaimed for *The Harrowing* and *Bad Dream*. Here's Oni Press's official synopsis:

*Mark is a devout Catholic boy. He attends church, recites his prayers, and often worries about the concept of hell. When he discovers his feelings for another boy at school, Mark faces the challenge of aligning his emotions with his faith, burdened by centuries of shame and judgment, and the fear of his parents' reaction. Seeking guidance, Mark consults his priest and a local drag performer, but also receives unexpected advice from significant figures in Catholic history and lore, such as Joan of Arc, Michelangelo, St. Sebastian, and Savonarola. Ultimately, Mark must decide if it's possible to embrace both his Catholic faith and his gay identity.*

"Hey, Mary! explores the complex interplay between queerness and Catholicism through the eyes of Mark," Wheeler shares with IGN. "For those who are queer and Catholic, these tensions are deeply rooted in centuries of art and expression. By focusing on Mark's journey, we hope to make these themes more relatable. This excerpt features Mark receiving an art history lesson from his friend and crush, Luka, and a fantastical encounter with a notable queer Catholic icon. It's both entertaining and educational."

"A big thank you to Hank Jones, our incredible colorist, for the vibrant colors on the turtles in the first page of this preview!" Hickman adds. "Hey, Mary! is filled with nods to art history, like a sequential Easter egg hunt. Religious iconography has had a profound impact through the ages, and Catholic imagery is known for its emotional intensity and sometimes, its sexual undertones, which can be challenging to reconcile."

"Incorporating Catholic art references was a joy, and Rye's execution is phenomenal," Wheeler continues. "These references enhance the visual storytelling, whether you catch them or not."
