Head Start players have been exploring Arrakis since June 5, but Dune: Awakening opened its doors to everyone just yesterday, on June 10. Within hours of its full release, Funcom's survival MMO had already attracted over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam—142,050, to be exact.
That player count secured Dune: Awakening the ninth spot among Steam's most-played games over the past 24 hours. As the game heads into its first official launch weekend, we expect those numbers to climb even higher, potentially setting a new concurrent peak on Saturday or Sunday.
Before the launch, Funcom announced that the console version of Dune: Awakening is now slated for "sometime in 2026"). We've also covered how players discovered an unofficial method to ride sandworms, a feature not yet officially supported in the game.
Our review of Dune: Awakening is still underway. While we're holding off on a final score and have some reservations about the gunplay, our reviewer noted: "Even after 35 hours, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface. There are new zones to explore, the main story has much left to tell, and my PvP encounters have been limited. With so much still ahead, look for an updated review later this week as I progress toward the endgame."
To help you thrive on Arrakis, we've put together Dune: Awakening resource guides to locate iron, steel, aluminum, and other essential materials.
