All Characters and Weapons Now Free to Unlock
Duet Night Abyss (DNA) conducted its global launch announcement livestream on August 26, where developer Pan Studio unexpectedly revealed that the game would abandon gacha mechanics entirely.
Originally designed as a free-to-play fantasy adventure RPG with a gacha system for acquiring characters and weapons via banners, DNA will now allow players to obtain all characters and weapons through in-game progression, according to Pan Studio.
Additionally, the game has removed its stamina system, granting players greater flexibility to farm dungeons and reducing the "pressure to optimize efficiency." These adjustments were introduced following community feedback from the game’s second closed beta test.
While players expressed surprise at the decision, many welcomed the developer’s player-centric approach. Discussions surged on the GachaGaming subreddit, with some users humorously noting that DNA no longer qualifies as a gacha game.
Sustainability Concerns Remain
Despite aligning with community preferences, questions linger about the financial sustainability of this model. The developers have since clarified that the game will generate revenue through cosmetic purchases.
Fans have frequently compared DNA to Warframe, another popular free-to-play action game, due to their fast-paced combat and gameplay. The recent announcement reinforces these parallels, as both titles emphasize unlimited grinding within a free-to-play structure.
However, unlike Warframe, DNA does not feature a player-driven marketplace for earning premium currency through item trading. In Warframe, this currency is used for cosmetics, inventory expansion, progression boosts, and trades.
The absence of such a system in DNA has led fans to hope for its inclusion, believing it could contribute to the game’s success in a manner similar to Warframe.
Launch Scheduled for October 28
Alongside these major system changes, Pan Studio confirmed that DNA will launch on October 28. Pre-registration is currently open on the game’s official website, App Store, and Google Play Store.
A pre-registration campaign is underway, offering a range of in-game rewards to early sign-ups. Each milestone reached unlocks additional bonuses, including:

It is worth noting that these rewards may be adjusted following the removal of the gacha system. Official updates regarding potential modifications have not yet been released.
What Prompted the Change?
Although Pan Studio cited feedback from the Closed Beta Test as the impetus for these changes, the precise reasons remain unspecified. Some speculate that the saturated gacha market—dominated by titles like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, and upcoming releases such as Neverness to Everness and Chaos Zero Nightmare—may have influenced the decision to differentiate DNA from the genre.
Regardless of the motivation, the community has responded positively to the announcement, hopeful that this innovative model will propel the game to success. Many also express a desire to see similar systems adopted by other gacha games, making them more accessible without financial strain.
