Destiny 2 Builds Momentum Ahead of The Edge of Fate Launch
All Expansions and Episodes Availablefree for a Limited Time
In celebration of Bungie Day on July 7, developer Bungie is making every Destiny 2 expansion and episode free for a limited period. A July 9 post on X (formerly Twitter) announced that all platforms can access this offer from July 8 through July 22, 2025.
The open access includes the Forsaken (2018), Shadowkeep (2019), Beyond Light (2020), The Witch Queen (2022), Lightfall (2023), and The Final Shape (2024) expansions. Episodes Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy will remain free only until July 15.

This free access allows players to fully explore Destiny 2's storyline and catch up on its lore as the game prepares for its next major chapter, The Edge of Fate, launching July 15.
Not only does this offer let players revisit and experience Destiny 2's narrative, it also provides a chance to secure exclusive items from these expansions. All gear, currency, titles, triumphs, and cosmetics obtained during the free period will remain in players' inventories permanently, even if they choose not to purchase the expansions later.
Developer Insights on The Edge of Fate
Ahead of The Edge of Fate's release, Bungie released a new video on July 9 featuring developers discussing the player's journey on Kepler. The Emissary of the Nine, Orin, plays a central role as she breaks away from the Nine and reunites with the Guardians.
The expansion explores the lore of the Nine and the internal strife among them as they search for a new Emissary. Orin's departure from her role, however, opens up new questions and possibilities, setting the stage for an entirely new Destiny 2 saga.

According to the developers, "This release centers on serendipity—that magical feeling of stumbling upon meaningful connections by chance. Except here, chance plays no part." They hint at a larger, more powerful force working behind the scenes, one that will significantly shape the narrative. "Great stories aren’t built on plot happening to characters, but on characters making choices that change the world," they explained.
In terms of gameplay, the expansion introduces World Tiers, a system that lets players stack challenges for improved rewards. Each tier increases enemy difficulty, demanding greater strategic planning from players. It also unlocks additional mysteries and pursuits on the new planet Kepler. Higher tiers offer rarer rewards, incentivizing players to push their limits in this new environment.

The Edge of Fate marks the beginning of Destiny 2’s Year of the Prophecy roadmap, which will also include Renegades, a crossover event with the legendary sci-fi franchise Star Wars, arriving December 2. After more than a decade of rich content and consistent updates, Bungie continues to deepen the lore and mechanics of this beloved online multiplayer first-person shooter.
Destiny 2 is playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, goes live on July 15. Stay informed with the latest game news by checking out our article below!
