Defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: Proven Strategies

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, one of the earliest challenges you'll encounter is the battle against Zhang Jiao, the head of the Yellow Turbans. Here's a detailed guide on how to conquer this formidable opponent.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s First Phase

The initial confrontation with Zhang Jiao takes place in a vast wasteland, where you'll face him one-on-one. During this phase, Zhang Jiao employs sorcery to hurl stones at you across the arena. If you're near him, he'll summon four stones, necessitating quick evasion. From a distance, he'll double the number of stones, throwing them in sets of two, which you can dodge by circling him. Staying too close when he summons a large number of stones can be hazardous; it's crucial to create some distance to avoid taking significant damage.

While Zhang Jiao primarily keeps you at bay with ranged attacks, he also has a few melee moves. These include straightforward combos that you can parry and an Area of Effect (AOE) attack meant to repel you. If you notice him glowing white, he's preparing his AOE attack; it's wise to retreat to avoid damage.

As the battle progresses, Zhang Jiao will unleash moves accompanied by a red aura, indicating unblockable attacks. These include summoning a deluge of rocks and creating clones. The best strategy here is to retreat until these attacks conclude, then resume your offensive. Equip a sword for this fight, as it will allow you to deal substantial damage compared to other weapons like spears or gauntlets.

Monitoring your health is crucial; you'll likely have only four healing opportunities, depending on your skill upgrades. Remember, there are jars near the arena entrance containing meat buns for healing. Use these moments to retreat and replenish your health.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s Second Phase

Upon unlocking Musou Rage, you'll transition into the second phase, where Zhang Jiao's forces, the Yellow Turbans, join the fray. Fortunately, your own army will also arrive, providing some support. This is an opportune time to heal by dashing to the entrance and grabbing the meat buns. Be cautious of Zhang Jiao's tornadoes, which can disrupt your position as you battle his troops.

After thinning out his soldiers, Zhang Jiao will deploy his Grand Tactic, challenging you to defeat 300 soldiers within a tight timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. Additionally, he'll summon lightning strikes across the arena. Keep an eye on the ground for closing rings that signal incoming lightning; evade when they flash. To efficiently clear the Yellow Turbans, utilize Musou Mode, which can eliminate dozens of enemies at once. Despite having access to Musou Rage Mode, sticking to the basic Musou Mode is advisable given the time pressure.

Successfully thwarting Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice will bring him back to the battlefield, employing the same tactics as in Phase 1. With your army's assistance, you should find it relatively straightforward to deplete his remaining health, concluding Chapter 1.

This is how you can triumph over Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
